Chapter 3 - Bruce, a bicycle advocate.
Bruce is also a cyclist. After moving to Springfield, he borrowed a bicycle from a roommate for a summer and in October of 1993 met his life partner on an ‘aborted bike ride’. She was captain of an MS 150 team and over the next 20 years they worked together to grow the team. The Endorphins were often the largest community team in the local MS 150 bike ride.
During that time, Bruce also was a bicycle advocate. He sat on the Traffic Advisory Board, served Springbike Bicycle Club as both the president and advocacy committee chair, and two terms on board and as president of Ozark Greenways, a local multi use trail organization. In May 2002 the very first ‘Awareness Ride took place to bring attention to cyclists interacting with vehicles on roadways - and after 8 years of advocacy - In May 2010, Springfield was designated a ‘Bicycle Friendly Community’ by the League of American Cyclists and has maintained that stats through 2021 where some guidance was offered on how to move to ‘Silver’ status. There will be a meet and greet of the candidate held at A&B Cycle 3620 S. National Springfield, MO on March 8, from 4-6 pm. Stop by and visit with Bruce, offer your thoughts on how our cycling infrastructure could be improved and do what you can to support his campaign.
